Geoffrey Williams began his association with
church music in 1976 when he joined the choir of Liverpool
Cathedral under the direction of Ronald Woan. He sang for the completion service of
the cathedral in 1978 and sang for
the visits of Princess Diana and Prince Charles and Pope John Paul II. In 1981 Ronald Woan
retired and was succeeded by Ian Tracey who appointed Geoff as
Head Chorister in 1982.
When Geoff left the choir in 1983 he was appointed as
Organ Scholar to Ian Tracey for two years. He moved to All Hallows, Allerton as
Assistant Organist before becoming Assistant Organist at St Anne's, Stanley in 1985. He was appointed
Organist
and Choirmaster in 1987 and has continued to enhance the worship
at St. Anne's, which has a strong reputation as a centre for traditional church music.
Geoff was awarded the British Empire Medal in the 2017/2018 New year's honours list for services to the community through his work at St. Anne's.
